Biography

Mary was born in 1865^[1] and was baptised the following year in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Edward Wright and Sarah Ann Dufton.^[2] The family lived in Leeds, where Mary's father worked as a cloth dresser.^[3]

At the time of the 1881 census Mary worked as a kitchenmaid for Louisa Walker Middleton in Leeds.^[4]

On Valentine's Day 1886 Mary married George Wiseman in Leeds.^[5][6] In 1891 the family lived on Pollard Street and George was a pottery labourer.^[7] He worked as a general labourer in 1901, when the Wisemans lived on Cranberry Street.^[8] By 1911 they lived at 53 Glensdale Terrace - a house with "one living room, two bedrooms and an attic."^[9]

George died in 1915 at the age of 48.^[10] At the time of the 1939 Register Mary was "incapacitated" and a patient of St George's Infirmary in Rothwell, Yorkshire.^[11]

She died in 1946 at the age of 80.^[12]
